Are all great trumpet players intellectuals ?

I’ve been wondering about this. There are so many variables involved with tone production in brass playing I wonder if being highly analytical is sort of a requirement in order to be a great trumpet player. (Really mastering anything requires analysis but I play the trumpet so that is my focus).

Like I had this lesson with a trombonist from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and he said “You have to be your own best teacher because everyones oral cavitity is different and I cant see into your mouth”

I really began to see his point when I realized that alot of trumpet books talk about are suppport but rarely talk about apeture. I mean I’ve learned the hard way that I can blow a whole bunch of air out my face but if the opening in my embrochure isnt the right size I cant hit high notes.
Also if the apeture isnt flexible or too tight, sluring between partials and in general in the high range is near impossible.

It seems the tension in various places in your lips is never fully explained.
