Discoveries on FMLA

Bored in my house on FMLA playing around on all the new updated social media apps that I have to analyze as a Senior Analytics Manager and Digital Strategist. Since I had heart surgery and PTSD I had fallen behind on learning the latest tech and was becoming super frustrated at work. The human mind can only take so much disruption before it experiences decision fatigue or worst.

I have been following the great ableist activist and one of my black creative besties Jennifer White-Johnson to learn how I as a manager can create an inclusive work environment for neurodivergent employees. However, the stress of this endeavor made me realize I have to put on my own “oxygen mask” first and deal with my own trauma, in order to be a healthier person. Unfortunately, as a trailblazing GenXer no one really knows what the adverse side effects will be for combining Silicon Valley neurohacking culture with someone with Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome.

I have become a huge disciple of Gabor Maté and Jim Collins. Both of their works have helped me create a scalable project management system and analytics programs that are inclusive and trauma informed.

But again in going hard for my team as a woman of faith and Cancerian, I haven’t really learned how to create a healthy environment for myself. I have been in a mental health facility 5 times and only when learning about the Hero’s journey at Sheppard Pratt in 2019, did I really begin to make the necessary cognitive and relational changes to my life to make huge progress.

Sadly I have discovered by family has been the biggest obstacle to my healing. In general, they are very kind people, just not very helpful to me personally in dealing with my mental health issues.
