I wish was the noose that hung Okonkwo
by on November 11, 2011 in Poetry

My eyes blurred with the pain of betrayal of an African Man.

400 years and the Middle Passage couldn’t change his nature.

The nature that caused him to sell my ancestors into slavery

The nature that causes him to objectify women in his own land

The nature that caused him to brutalize his own people for European goods.

The nature that causes him to use and marry already aching black American women only to dispose of them later

That is why I wish I was the noose…..

the noose that Okonkwo hung himself with

the noose that choked the air out of this proud African Man

the noose that ended the life of this abuser of women

the noose that crushed the existence of Ikemefuna’s killer
