An Ode to Trombonist and Aspiring Jazz Elder: Reginald Cyntje
by on December 12, 2011 in Favorite Artists Music

Broken promises had deeply lacerated my heart, leaving a gaping wound of betrayal and rejection.

I stumbled in darkness, crying out to the Creator to free me from this fallen world and let death be the remedy for my pain.

The Lord refused to answer my cry, reminding me the bitter cup of suicide would only leave the unrelenting and putrid taste of abandonment in the mouths of my babes.

So the Creator decided to send me one of his emissaries instead,

—a  man whose lips dripped with words of affirmation and healing.

Who sought to lighten the burden of oppression for women of the Diaspora,

and empower them to overcome.

He was not a perfect man, but one walking the path of contriteness looking to redeem his life from youthful transgressions.

Unlike other male musicians he didn’t reek with the smell of whoredom and arrogance but the awesome fragrance of humility mixed with self-respect.

With honor and chivalry he attracted queens near and far, for he himself with was a king of honor, an emperor with a heart full of peace and unconditional love.

When his noble journey brought my feeble and broken humanity across  his path, he didn’t pose as predator disguised as lover but in his great wisdom knew I needed a friend and true brother.

I was indeed diseased and toxic, often vomiting sick and hurtful words on his innocent soul.

But somehow he was determined to nurture me back to emotional wholeness.

Eventually wounds began to heal and pain subsided.  Purpose returned to my body and I hurt no more.

So I say today, thank you Mr. Reginald Andy Demetrius Felix Cyntje for being the man God has called you to be for me and so many others of the Diaspora. Thank you for taking a stand against the darkness and giving the world melodies and harmonies that challenge it to “Dream Big and Love Hard” .

Thank you for being  obedient to the Creator and telling the story of “Freedom’s Childern”.

May goodness and mercy follow you ALL the days of your life and

may you and your descendants dwell in the house of the Lord forever. AMEN.
